Riverside House
Situated on the quiet edge of an estate in Kommetjie, this home was designed to embrace the privacy, tranquillity, and natural beauty of its surroundings. Bordering a protected fynbos belt, the site offered a rare sense of seclusion and uninterrupted connection to the landscape, which became central to the architectural approach.
The owners, drawn to a minimalist way of living, envisioned a home defined by simplicity, honesty in materials, and restrained detailing. The interior palette reflects this philosophy through the use of polished screed floors, bagged brick walls, exposed textures, and dramatic vaulted ceilings that create a sense of openness and calm throughout the home. The kitchen followed the same minimal design language, incorporating marine ply drawers and eliminating conventional overhead cupboards in favour of a cleaner, more refined spatial experience.
Alongside the primary residence, the clients also sought to create an additional income-generating opportunity. In response, a fully private second dwelling was carefully integrated above the garage, allowing it to function independently while maintaining the quiet, understated character of the overall home.
