Eversdal House

Located in the leafy suburb of Eversdal, this alteration and addition project focused on transforming a dark and disconnected family home into a light-filled space better suited to modern family living and entertaining. Designed for a family of four, the renovation centred around upgrading the kitchen, entertainment areas, and main bedroom suite.

Over time, previous alterations had enclosed the original verandah, leaving the kitchen feeling isolated and lacking natural light. The new design carefully removed unnecessary walls between the kitchen and surrounding living spaces, creating a more open and connected environment while still retaining valuable storage space and respecting the structural limitations of the existing roof.

A key aspect of the project was strengthening the relationship between the indoor braai room and the outdoor pool area, which previously felt detached from the rest of the home. By removing an existing freestanding wall and outdated verandah roof, the design introduced a new timber deck and surrounding water feature, creating a seamless entertainment space that reconnects the home to its outdoor environment.

A major driver behind the renovation was the decision to relocate the outdoor living and pool area from the shaded rear of the property to the large, underutilised sunny front garden directly adjacent to the lounge. This shift allowed the home to better engage with its most valuable outdoor space, significantly improving the relationship between the interior entertainment areas and the external environment.
